Lymphocyte Manipulation Mechanism Signalling Subversion
Cell Signalling in Prokaryotes and Lower Metazoa Cell signalling lies at the heart of many biological processes and currently is the focus of intense research interest. In multicellular organisms, it is central to how different types of cell communicate with each other and how they detect and respond to extracellular signals. Intercellular communication is vital to single-celled organisms as well, allowing them to respond to environmental cues and signals. To date, much of the understanding of signalling mechanisms has come from research on specific cell types (eg mouse lymphocyte and cardiomyocyte) or on organisms in which communication systems such as nervous and endocrine systems are well established. This volume therefore aims to 'fill the gap' by concentrating on 'simple organisms' where the elements of those signalling systems first evolved. Many of the groups covered contain important pathogens or parasites, and the potential for manipulating signalling pathways for therapeutic intervention will be highlighted.
Media Virus!: Hidden Agendas in Popular Culture by Douglas Rushkoff, Bold, daring, and provocative, Media Virus! examines the intricate ways in which popular media both manipulate and are manipulated by those who know how to tap into their power. Douglas Rushkoff shows that where there's a wavelength, there's a way to "infect" those on it - from the subtly, but intentionally, subversive signals broadcast by shows like "The Simpsons", to the O.J. media frenzy surrounding the Nicole Brown Simpson murder case, chase, and trial. What does it all mean? Unless you've been living in a cave that isn't cable-ready, you're already infected with the media virus. But don't worry, it won't make you sick. It will make you think....
Megaco - Megaco (a contraction of "Media Gateway Controller") is a signalling protocol, used between a Media Gateway and a Media Gateway Controller (also known as a Call Agent or a Soft Switch) in a VoIP network. It defines the necessary signalling mechanism to allow a Media Gateway Controller (Call agent) to control gateways in order to support voice/fax calls between PSTN-IP or IP-IP networks. Binary File Descriptor - The Binary File Descriptor library, most commonly seen as just BFD, is the GNU project's main mechanism for the portable manipulation of object files in a variety of formats. As of 2003, it supports approximately 50 file formats for some 25 processor architectures. Slim Jim (lock pick) - ... a thin piece of metal used to unlock automobile doors without use of a key or lock pick. Sliped down past the car's lowerable windows, the hooked end of the tool can catch the rods that connect to the lock mechanism and, with careful manipulation, unlock the car door. R2 signalling - R2 is a 1960s- and 1970s-era Channel Associated Signalling signalling protocol used outside of North America to convey at least the following information along a telephone trunk: seizure of an idle DS0 channel, the called party's digits 1 through 10, the calling party's digits 1 through 10, the calling party's category, the disposition of the routing of the telephone call, the called party's off-hook answer, and the release of the call. R2 is the name ...
